Bad rust in the weatherstrip channel

I've heard about this a lot, water stays in the old rubber weatherstrip and eventually rusts the channel and adjacent metal, giving us something else to do...yea.

............................................................................................................

Here is the problem, the left hand gutter/channel has really severe rust.  Mitch and I cut out the bad metal, and are welding in good metal.  A Dynacorn replacement channel helped, and a good friend in New Jersey that I have never met made me the extra metal pieces I needed to mate the replacement channel to the trunk.  Thank you TOM Cetkowski on the 1961-1964 Full Size Chevy Forum for your assistance.

We had a little rust in the lower section below the trunk opening as well, here is Mitch Foster welding in the replacement steel.  A lot of work ahead before this is show ready!

Mitch is checking the holes we drilled thru the new meatl before starting to tack weld it in place.

More pictures on the trunk repair to come.

A little more detail work and this part is done.
